Six Watermelon Cocktails to Make for Your Summer Party

One great way to stay hydrated in the summer is to eat watermelon. This same fruit can also provide thirst-quenching refreshment in a cocktail. This drink is ideal for any summer party that has a “picnic” or barbecue theme. The following are some of the favorite watermelon cocktails you can make.

1. Melons Rising

This gin-based watermelon cocktail is the ideal drink for lovers of gin. Aperol is added to offer a nice balance of sweetness and tang. The following ingredients are included in the drink:

1½ ounces of gin

½ ounces of overproof rum

½ ounces of watermelon syrup

½ ounces of aperol

¾ ounce of lime juice – freshly squeezed

A dash of grapefruit bitters

Combine the ingredients and use a tumbler to shake with ice. Strain the drink into an ice-filled rocks glass and garnish with a fresh sprig of thyme.

2. Watermelon Sling

This drink combines white whiskey and aperol for the discerning palette. To make this drink, you will need the following ingredients:

Soda water

1½ ounces of white whiskey

½ ounces of simple syrup (1:1)

1¼ ounces of watermelon juice

½ ounces of aperol

½ ounces of lemon juice (freshly squeezed)

Shake the ingredients in a tumbler with ice until they are chilled. Strain the mix into a Collins glass and garnish with a rosemary sprig and lemon wheel.

3. Water Tower Cocktail

This watermelon highball features two primary ingredients. To make this drink, you will need the following:

2 ounces of fresh watermelon juice

2 ounces of Bianco vermouth

Combine both ingredients in a glass filled with ice, stir, and garnish. Use a Collins glass and a lime wedge for the garnish.

4. Watermelon Cucumber Margarita

This watermelon drink is another way to drink the all-time favorite margarita. To prepare this well-loved concoction, you will need to the following ingredients:

8 ounces of Blanco tequila

4 ounces of watermelon juice

4 ounces of cucumber juice

⅓ cup of lime juice (freshly squeezed)

6 teaspoons of agave syrup

½ cup of Cointreau

Rim a highball glass or glasses with kosher salt. Mix all the above ingredients into a pitcher filled with ice and stir. Garnish the drink with a cucumber wheel.

5. Tequila Watermelon Slushy

No party is complete without a frozen libation, especially a summer party. This refreshing drink puts a whole new spin on a booze-filled slushy. Make this watermelon drink with the following ingredients:

1½ ounces of Blanco tequila

3 ounces of fresh-pressed watermelon juice

1 cup of ice

1 ounce of aperol

Combine all the ingredients in a blender until they are smooth. Pour into a coupe glass and add fresh mint for the garnish.

6. Sandia Watermelon Cocktail

This cocktail literally sings – given its chorus of ingredients. An ideal cocktail for a poolside party, this drink contains the following ingredients:

1 ounce of Blanco tequila

1 ounce of watermelon juice

1 ounce of aperol

½ ounce of lime juice – freshly squeezed

¼ ounce of ginger syrup (1:1)

Shake the ingredients in a tumbler with ice. Strain the liquid into a rocks glass and garnish with watermelon balls and a sprig of mint.
